Odeal: A Musical Nomad Crafting a Global Sound

A portrait picture of Odeal

Born into a life of constant motion, Odeal has emerged as a dynamic force in the music industry. As a young teenager, his journey through Germany, Spain, Nigeria, and the United Kingdom has shaped his genre-blending musical style, fusing Afrobeats with smooth R&B vocals.

A Musical Odyssey

Odeal's unique sound can be traced back to his nomadic upbringing. Travelling between different countries exposed him to diverse musical cultures, enabling him to blend these influences into his music seamlessly. This cosmopolitan upbringing laid the foundation for his ability to cross cultures with his music.

During his formative years at a boarding school in Nigeria, Odeal began honing his skills as both an artist and a producer. His musical journey drew inspiration from legends like James Brown and local heroes such as Fela Kuti, Burna Boy, and Wizkid. This fusion of international and local influences would become a hallmark of Odeal's distinctive sound.

The London Influence

Returning to London in 2017, Odeal found himself at the epicentre of a burgeoning afrobeats scene with a unique UK twist. The music landscape in the capital was evolving, thanks to artists like NSG and J Hus who were putting their own spin on Afrobeats. Odeal recognized the potential for collaboration and innovation in this emerging scene and decided to dive in headfirst.

To realize his musical dreams, Odeal made significant sacrifices. He parted with cherished possessions, including his beloved camera and Beats headphones, to invest in a new laptop that would enable him to create music. This spirit of independence and self-reliance drove him to create his EP titled "Pragma," which he released independently in 2018. This marked the beginning of his journey as an artist who could release music without depending on anyone else.

Odeal's music is not just a reflection of his life experiences but also a response to the world around him. The summer of 2020, marked by protests and unrest following the killing of George Floyd, had a profound impact on Odeal's music. His track "More Life," released during this tumultuous period, channels personal losses and a broader call for justice. It serves as a poignant reminder of the need for change and a better future.

Odeal's ambition knows no bounds. He aspires to lead the way for his peers and open doors for emerging talent in the UK to be heard internationally. With a global perspective and a commitment to breaking boundaries, Odeal has demonstrated his ability to make moves toward the next level, blurring the lines between musical forms with ease.

Odeal's remarkable journey is a testament to the power of embracing one's diverse background and influences. As he continues to craft his global sound and inspire change through his music, Odeal stands as a shining example of an artist who has the talent, vision, and determination to shape the future of the music industry.

He was recently featured on Colors Studios where he delivered a beautiful rendition of "All that it takes".
